Co-Curricular Programs

  • Global Learning Program: ISB's Global Learning Program is a combination of local, national, and international experiences through which students develop key Knowledge, Disposition, and Skills. Learn more here
  • Student Exploration Program: Teams of students actively explore one theme or topic in a weekly, two-hour session, then design and implement a project related to the theme. The hands-on, collaborative learning approach is well-suited to young adolescents and helps them develop their creativity, curiosity and teamwork skills. Topics include Archeology, Architecture, Cooking, Global Citizenship, Flight School, Japanese Culture, Robotics, Stop Motion Animation, and TED-Ed.
  • Community Service Day: On this day, students provide a variety of services to the community, such as spring cleanup at the Alewife Reservoir; mulching neighborhood trees; stocking food at several food pantries; making crafts with elders; and sorting clothing for children in need. Community Service Day helps students develop their understanding of and empathy for those less fortunate, and become active participants in a broader community.
  • Student Council: A group composed of student-elected representatives from each 6th, 7th and 8th grade class organizes social and charitable events and promotes a positive sense of community and pride in Middle School.

  • Community Service: All ISB Upper School students are required to take part in service activities and encouraged to invest their time in creative, active and service-based projects. This helps students develop a commitment to an active, healthy lifestyle; recognition of the value of creative and innovative activities; and collaboration, leadership, and other skills.
  • Model UN: Students participate in regional MUN conferences outside of their academic schedule. The club meets on a regular basis to prepare for conferences, and attends three conferences per year. ISB students also organize an annual MUN conference at the School and most recently attended the New York city MUN conference in March 2022.
  • Digital Citizenship: Digital Citizenship is a mandatory online course for students in Grades 9 through 11. It helps students learn how to be safe and secure, as well as smart and effective participants in a digital world. Students learn their rights and responsibilities, recognize benefits and risks, and realize the personal and ethical implications of their actions.

The nine elements of digital citizenship taught are: Digital Etiquette, Digital Access, Digital Law, Digital Literacy, Digital Communication, Digital Commerce, Digital Rights and Responsibility, Digital Safety (Security), Digital Health and Wellness.
