AEFE Partnerships

ISB's partnership with AEFE offers unmatched opportunity for cultural exchange among students. Whether traveling throughout North America to participate in a tournament or proudly hosting an AEFE-sponsored event here in Boston, these programs showcase the very best of our mission to cultivate excellence in multicultural learning.  Dr. Mehdi Lazar, Assistant Head of School

Through ISB’s partnership with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), students have the unique opportunity to compete in AEFE-sponsored athletic and co-curricular tournaments and activities.

Athletic Tournaments

In recent years, ISB students have participated in a Volleyball Tournament in Washington, D.C., a Basketball Tournament in Chicago, and the Boston Cup Soccer Tournament hosted by ISB. These tournaments are competitive in nature, and students are selected based on tryouts. As a collaborative effort between ISB’s Athletic Department and our Global Learning Program, AEFE Tournaments promote sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and camaraderie among students hailing from French-American schools throughout the United States. They also provide our most passionate student-athletes with another outlet for competitive participation.

Chess Tournament

The 2023 AEFE Chess Tournament was hosted at the Lycée français de San Diego, featuring nearly 100 students from six AEFE schools. The competition lasted for two days, featuring individual tournaments with nine rounds and a team tournament. Students had the opportunity to meet Grand Master Samy Shoker, a multilingual player, who engaged in simultaneous and blind games with them. ISB will host the tournament in October 2024.

Theater Activities

Each year, ISB Upper School theater students travel to New York City for an annual competition of French theater. ISB students join more than 400 peers from schools across the United States, Canada, and France. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a master class, led by a renowned member of the theater community, and attend a Broadway show.
