Transportation

A global education is only a bus or bike ride away.

There are countless ways for families to access ISB's campus each day, from school-provided bus transportation and nearby MBTA locations to walking and biking paths.

ISB, a private day school for students in Preschool through Grade 12, is located at the intersection of Cambridge, Somerville, and Arlington, making ISB an easy morning drop-off for parents commuting to area colleges and universities, Kendall Square, Medford, Lexington, downtown Boston, and beyond.

If you are interested in learning more about our bus program offerings, please contact the Admissions Office.

ISB Bus Program

ISB offers two bus routes to families, provided through its school transportation partner:

  1. Route 1: Serving families in Mattapan, Boston (South End/Back Bay), Charlestown, and Somerville
  2. Route 2: Serving families in Newton, Waltham, Lexington, and Belmont

Morning and afternoon routes are available to children as young as age 4/entering MidK through Grade 12. All buses are equipped with seat belts. This is a fee-based program, which is significantly subsidized by the school. For more information on the bus program, contact the Admissions Office.

Bus Transportation for Cambridge Residents

Students residing in Cambridge between the ages of 4 and Grade 8 can take advantage of Cambridge Public School's free school bus transportation program. For more information on ISB's access to the Cambridge Public School bus system, contact the Admissions Office

Public Transportation

ISB's campus is easily accessible via public transportation:

  • Bus: Students and families can use the MBTA's 87, 88, or 89 bus lines. All bus stops are located within a three minute walk to campus.
  • Subway: Two MBTA subway T-stops on the Red Line are within walking distance of the School: Alewife and Davis Square. This is a popular option for ISB's Secondary School students.

Walking & Biking

Many students and families choose to walk to and from campus each day. Several bike racks are located on campus, available on a first-come, first-served basis. ISB is easily accessible from the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway (passing through Bedford, Lexington, Arlington, and Cambridge), the Linear Park Path (beginning at the Alewife MBTA station) and Somerville Bikeway, and the Somerville Community Path.

After-School Programming

ISB students have numerous opportunities to engage in our Elementary School Garderie Program, Elementary and Middle School After-School clubs, Middle School Study Homework Club, and Secondary School sports once the school day concludes. Learn more about our programs here:
