Preschool through Grade 12

January 2021 Return to Campus

We are pleased to share with you the schedule and the protocols for a safe return to classrooms in January, 2021. Thank you for your vigilance keeping our community safe!

COVID-19 Testing Requirement

  • ISB will require all our students (age 2 and above), Faculty, and Staff to be tested before returning to the classrooms in January. Tests can be performed on ISB campus or by an external provider. Please understand that, for the safety of our entire community, there will be no exceptions regardless of your travel plans or other individual circumstances.

  • Students who do not submit a test result in time will be expected to stay at home until they do receive a negative test result. They will be able to participate in remote learning during this time, according to each Division's protocol. However, a 14-day quarantine in lieu of testing will not be an option.

  • We will only accept results from a PCR test (no Antigen/rapid test), as per recommendations of the Cambridge Board of Health.

  • The test should be administered within 72 hours before returning to campus, as per recommendations of the Cambridge Board of Health.

  • As per ISB Travel Advisory, if you travel abroad or to higher-risk states identified by the Commonwealth of MA, you should take a COVID test no earlier than 4 days after arriving back to MA. So for instance, if you are flying back to Boston from France on Saturday, January 2nd, you should be tested on Wednesday, January 6th at the earliest (unless you are already symptomatic, in which case you should get tested right away).

  • Please allow at least 4 days after the date of any potential exposure to COVID-19 (ie. meeting with people not part of the household "bubble") before you get tested. A test taken too early may return negative, without precluding the individual from developing COVID-19 just a few days later from that same exposure.

Testing on ISB Campus

  • Students will have the option to get tested on ISB campus (in the Church Hall and the Gym), at the cost to the family of $65 per test. Families on Financial Aid who wish to take the test at ISB should contact the Business Office

  • The on-campus testing will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, January 4th through 6th.

  • Please register on the Parent Portal / Online Payments for a specific day/time slot and you will receive an email a few days afterwards to create an account for each person to be tested. Siblings and parents are welcome to register. Registration deadline is Sunday, December 20th, 2020. You will be able to come at any time during your chosen time slot. Unfortunately, due to the Broad Institute scheduling process, no walk-in will be allowed on the testing days.

  • The PCR test is a simple, non-invasive, painless anterior nasal swab. The test is processed by the Broad Institute. For adults: The test will be self-administered under the guidance of the clinicians of Cataldo Ambulance.  For minors: clinicians from Cataldo Ambulance will administer the test. Please see a fact sheet for patients and more info about the test.

  • Results will be available within approximately 24 hours, via email notification prompting you to log into your account to view the results. This is one of the advantages of testing at ISB, since many external sites take multiple days for results.  In case of a positive result, you will receive a phone call to the number you provided. Please understand that results for tests done on Wednesday may be available before school starts on Thursday morning, but there is no guarantee.

  • The School will also be automatically notified so you will not need to submit anything else.

  • All Faculty and Staff will be tested on campus, and the school will cover the costs and they will receive a separate memo.
