Children enrolling in Maternelle do not need to speak French. In fact, some students enter Maternelle speaking neither French nor English, but another language.

• Students applying to Toute Petite Section (TPS) must be two years old by December 31st of their entry year. They do not need to be toilet-trained before entering school.
• Students applying to Pre-K, Mid-K, and Kindergarten must be three, four, and five years old, respectively, by December 31st of their entry year. They must also be toilet-trained before entering school.
• TPS (two-year-old) and Pre-K (three-year-old) students have the option to attend for half days (Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 12:00 PM).

Application Materials:

• Upload the daycare/school progress reports or a copy of report cards (bulletins scolaires) for the last two years of school (if applicable) and for the most recent grading period.
• If your child is presently in school or daycare, the teacher should complete an evaluation form. The form is available in both English and French.

In Grades 1 through 5, students can still enroll knowing only English. Although many applicants to these grades speak French, our Admissions Team will review each student’s application individually. For those who need additional language support, we provide expert instruction in both English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FSL).

Application Materials:

• Please upload the school progress reports or a copy of report cards (bulletins scolaires) for the last two years of school and the most recent grading period.
• Please have your child's teacher fill out the most appropriate evaluation form.

For those who need additional language support, we provide expert instruction in both English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FSL).

Students currently attending an English-speaking program must submit the following:

• Evaluation form to be completed by one of their teachers, advisor, or principal.
• Standardized test scores are optional (we accept the ISEE, SSAT, MCAS, and CTP). 

Students currently attending a French-speaking program should submit the following:

• Evaluation form in French to be completed by their teacher.

The Admissions Office will contact applicants, if necessary, to conduct an interview upon receipt of a completed application.

ISB has two Upper School tracks, one taught primarily in French, leading to the French Baccalaureate, and one taught in English, leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. All ISB students and families hold an appreciation for our multicultural community; however, French is not required to enroll in the International Baccalaureate track as the program is taught entirely in English, except for the students’ language requirement.

Application Materials:

• Upload the school progress reports or a copy of report cards (bulletins scolaires) for the last two years of school and for the most recent grading period.
• Students currently attending an English-speaking program must also provide the following: 
  • Math evaluation form (to be completed by the present math teacher).
  • English evaluation form (to be completed by the present English teacher).
  • Administrator evaluation form (to be completed by a principal, advisor, or guidance counselor).
  • Standardized test scores are optional:
    • ISB's ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) code is 222628.
    • ISB’s SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) code is 4122.
    • Grade 11 applicants can provide PSAT scores and/or SAT scores instead of SSAT.
       
• Students currently attending a French-speaking program should also provide the following: 
  • Evaluation form in French to be completed by the professeur principal. 

The Admissions Office will contact applicants, if necessary, to conduct an interview upon receipt of a completed application.

Please note: Students applying to the International Baccalaureate track whose first language is not English will be required to take an online English Placement Test as part of the application process.
