Mary Ann Sorel

Mary Ann rejoined the Board in 2021 after serving from 2011 to 2020. She has served in many capacities, including as Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Committee on Trustees, member of the Search Committee for the Head of School, member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, and member of the Development Committee. Mary Ann currently serves as Executive Director of the Cary Memorial Library Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to augment the public library in Lexington, MA. Mary Ann’s professional background is as a corporate finance and securities lawyer. She served as a Junior Partner at WilmerHale, as a corporate associate at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York City, and as special U.S. counsel at Ashurst, London.
Mary Ann is active in her community and has volunteered in many capacities, including as Co-Chair of the Board and Chair of Advancement for the Community Endowment of Lexington, a community-based grantmaking nonprofit foundation. Mary Ann graduated from Brown University and the University of Michigan Law School, and she is a member of the bar of the State of New York.
She and her husband, Pierre, who grew up in Paris, have three children who all attended ISB. Their two older children are ISB "lifers"; their daughter graduated with the bilingual IB diploma, and their son earned the French baccalaureate with the international option. The family is bilingual, speaking English and French at home, and all are dual citizens.
