Journalism Club

In the Fall of 2009, upper school students will have their own journalism club. Students will be able to start their own magazine, a bilingual publication consisting of articles written and edited by students on a wide variety of subjects. The experience will help students hone their writing and journalistic skills, and also learn the basics of editing and production, as well as marketing in an attempt to generate advertising and raise the profile of ISB. Students will benefit in many ways from participating in the club. Extra-curricular and leadership activities are important factors in college entrance, and can be very helpful in obtaining internships and summer jobs.

Ibrahim Warde, father of Antoine (second grade) will mentor the club. He has written a number of books and articles both in French and English and is a long-time contributor to Le Monde diplomatique. He is a graduate of France's Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) and holds a Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley, He has taught at Berkeley and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, and is on the faculty of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

The goal of the club is to create a bilingual quarterly magazine and a website where student videos, pictures and other resources would be posted. The club is open to high school students with an interest in writing and journalism (in French and/or in English), as well as to those interested in video production, photography, visual or graphic arts and business (fundraising).

An introductory meeting will take place on Thursday September 17 at 3:45 p.m, room no.201
The club is free and open to high school students.
