Mission & Philosophy
Mission
The International School of Boston (ISB) offers a distinctive bilingual education rooted in the best of French and American academic traditions. Our school draws on the diversity of its international student body and staff to provide students with curricular and extra-curricular experiences that prepare them for success and fulfillment in a global world. ISB views each student as a unique person, and strives for all of its students to achieve their highest potential level of academic excellence.
In support of this mission we aspire and are committed to:
- delivering world-class, bilingual, multi-skill education programs that are intellectually rigorous, clear, and consistent.
- retaining strong links with the French and American pedagogical systems.
- inspiring in our students a love of learning, self-confidence and pride in their cultural identity.
- creating a cooperative, interactive, learning environment free of discrimination.
- ensuring success in external examinations, thus enabling our students to enter the universities and courses of studies of their choice.
- appointing high-quality dedicated staff who focus upon and meet the needs of students as individuals.
- promoting humanistic values and global citizenship.
- welcoming parents into the school community and including them as partners in their children's education.
- maintaining a safe and healthy internal and external environment.
- serving as an example of educational excellence.
- maintaining the school on a sound, financially stable basis.
Philosophy
The aim of ISB is to provide students with a positive, inclusive, learning environment in which they have every opportunity to achieve their full potential. The school believes in the attainment of academic excellence but also firmly believes in the education of the whole person as well as education for life and world citizenship. Our concern is for the students' physical, moral, aesthetic, artistic, social, emotional, and academic development.
In practice, we believe this will be realized through a wide range of opportunities and challenges, and that the mastery of fundamental skills goes hand -in- hand with the freedom to create and explore.
ISB, through its bilingual, bicultural curriculum, and international learning environment, accepts responsibility for fostering an understanding in its students of the cultural heritages of France and the United States as well as a respect for their own cultural identities within the concept of world citizenship. We seek to inspire in our students a spirit of social responsibility towards their peer group, the School, and the community at large.
Furthermore, ISB as a school believes in promoting educational excellence within all its constituencies. As such, we must act as a leader and a resource both for bilingual education and international values among young people.
The necessary ingredients to reach these goals include time, patience, and a shared vision held by all involved in the school community.
