Muriel Médard

Muriel Médard joined the Board of Trustees in 2015. She is the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, and served on the Committee on Trustees. She did her secondary studies at the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, where she obtained a French Baccalaureate S, with honors, several certificates from the International Baccalaureate, as well as a first and second prize in the French Concours Général. She received from MIT all her degrees, a B.S. in Mathematics, a B.S. in EECS, a B.S. in Russian Literature, a M.S. in EE and a Sc.D. in EE. She is the mother of four children, among them John (Jack) Médard Simmons, who is in Middle School at ISB, and Vivian Simmons, alumna of ISB, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Muriel is a full time professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at MIT, where she holds the Cecil H. Green Chair and is a US National Academy of Engineering Gilbreth Lecturer. She served as President of the international Information Theory Society, and has received several international prizes for her publications. She serves or has served on the scientific advisory boards of several international research entities, among them DARPA, the European Center of Competence for Smart Cities, COMINLABS (Brittany) and Digicosme/Digitéo (Paris Tech). Muriel is an American and French binational. She speaks French and English with her children.
